With the considerable growth of China’s economy and the deeply development inglobalization, China Coal Technology and Engineering Group Nanjing Design andResearch Institute (hereinafter referred to as the Nanjing Institute), as an old state-ownedlarge and medium-sized design institute, faces the fierce market competition. Therefore,the firm must have a clear, long term and comprehensive Strategy.The article firstly introduces the Nanjing Institute, analysis the development of thedesigning consulting firms at home or aboard. Use the theory of corporate strategymanagement to evaluate the general management, the human resource management andmarket competition in details. And the article also analysis the macroeconomicenvironment, coal industry and designing consulting market situation facing by NanjingInstitute. After the analysis of Nanjing Institute’s internal and external environment, wesuggest the strategy plan on enterprise reform, industrial restructuring and corporatemanagement. Hopefully these can make the Nanjing Institute becomes the first-classinternational designing company in mine design, construction supervision, generalcontracting and architectural design businesses. The article then use the SWOT matrix todefine the firm’s Strengths, Weaknesses, opportunities and threats, after the evaluation ofeach aspect, reached the conclusion that Nanjing Institute has more strengths thanweaknesses, more opportunities than threats. Therefore the firm should choose the stablean expansionary strategy. In order to realize the strategic plan of Nanjing Institute, wesuggest using technical advantage to enhance market competition ability, establish arational organizational structure, optimize resources to strengthen inter-sectoralcoordination and cooperation, strengthen human resources management, diversifiedinternational operations, and enhance corporate culture.
