A Study On The Intramural Practice Teaching Of The Tourism Management

In recent years, with the rapid development of tourist industry and the increasing need for inter-disciplinary talents, the problem of too much theoretical teaching but not enough practice teaching arises in the teaching process for the major of tourism management. As a result, the present teaching model fails to fulfill the increasing need for inter-disciplinary talents. Meanwhile, the practice teaching becomes more and more significant.This thesis aims to study the intramural practice teaching of tourism management by the means of questionnaire survey and interview. In this research, the students and teachers of tourism management of four universities are investigated in detail for the following three objectives. First, it is to analyze the students’ awareness and evaluation of the intramural practice teaching of tourism management. Second, it is to get a general idea of the teachers’awareness and evaluation of the intramural practice teaching of tourism management. Third, it is to know about other colleges and universities related to tourism management. Based on these, this thesis further makes a conclusion of the current situation of the intramural practice teaching. At last the author puts forward several valuable suggestions about the strengthening of the intramural practice teaching from the perspectives of the hardware facilities, the course structure, the faculty structure, the textbook development, teaching methods, teaching patterns, teaching effect evaluation and the construction of security system.The thesis has the following findings. Tourism management students think that intramural practice teaching is very important, but it has not been paid enough attention in the practical teaching process. Professional teachers maintain that the intramural practice teaching is an essential part of tourism management teaching, but the practice teaching still stays at the level of formalism because of some limiting factors, of which the lack of professional teachers is an important one. In addition, tourism colleges have not put enough emphasis on the intramural practice teaching and failed to give it a firm position in the process of setting training objectives and designing curricula.In light of the problems concluded from the surveys, the thesis puts forward the following suggestions. Hardware facilities of intramural practice teaching should be consummated. The proportion of the intramural practice teaching in the training system should be enlarged. The faculty structure, the teaching methods and patterns of the intramural practice teaching should be optimized. The evaluation system of the intramural practice teaching effect should be improved. Moreover, the textbooks and security system for the intramural practice teaching should also be constructed and developed.
