As one of the basic elements of agricultural production, cultivated land is associated with the overall agricultural land yield capability and food security. Since cultivated land is facing the problem of high-strength development and quantity decline in recent years, studies on cultivated land quality are of great value. This thesis is based on the work of classification, gradation, and valuation of cultivated land quality. By looking at the natural and socio-economic property of cultivated land, and referring to the cultivated land classification and soil monitoring evaluation methods, this thesis established the index system and analyzed factors affecting the quality of cultivated land at the regional level. Using GIS model to evaluate the classes of cultivated land quality and obtaining dynamic changes of cultivated land quality in different periods, it is helpful to reflect the trend and spatial pattern of cultivated land quality changes. Based on the results, recommendations are provided to improve the quality of cultivated land in the city of Altay and to improve the approach of monitoring cultivated land quality gradation. The outcomes of the study are:1. Establish the agricultural land classification database by using the socio-economic data, field survey results and soil laboratory data of the city of Altay. Meanwhile, the study established cultivated land quality evaluation database by integrating land use change with soil testing and fertilization data.2. By applying influencing factors to test the correlation of various indicators and quality of cultivated land, it is notable that PH value of soil, profile shape, irrigation rate and depth to barriers are the major factors that constrain the development of cultivated land quality in the city of Altay.3. The results of cultivated land quality gradation evaluation show that the overall quality of Altay’s cultivated land is on the rise. Of all the classes, the natural class is changing gently, while utilization class and economy class have great fluctuation. In addition, the results of cultivated land quality comprehensive evaluation indicate that regional cultivated land quality index doesn’t change much, and its trend is similar to that of cultivated land quality gradation evaluation. Moreover, the multi-period dynamic changes of cultivated land quality reveal that the regional cultivated land quality in2011is significantly improved compared to that in2004. The qualities of cultivated land in some areas show great increases.
