As increasing competition and the sudden emergence of financial innovation, western commercial banks has been gradually getting rid of the traditional banking business model which is to obtain interest income from deposits and loans. Through the accumulation of hundreds of years, intermediate business already has been having a pivotal position in the Western banking. After20years development, the intermediary business has become a highlight of the commercial banks in developed countries. In contrast, the development of the domestic intermediary business has been lagging behind. In recent years, as greatly increased interest rate elasticity and deepening financial disintermediation phenomenon, domestic commercial banks has been paying attention to developing non-spread business which can help banks to expand the scope of their own profits, to raise their income levels, to keep earning stability and to adapt to the environment of market-oriented reforms.Starting from comparison of the intermediate business of two countries, which is on the basis of summing up the research results of Chinese and foreign scholars, this paper firstly selects the data of ICBC, China CITIC Bank, Nanjing Bank, Citibank, and the banking of2countries, secondly systematically compares the differences, through the use of a variety of commonly used economic quantitative indicators, lastly analyzes the existing problems and proposes specific solutions to provide a reference for the future research.The first part generally introduces the research background, the purpose and significance, the research methods, the innovation and the inadequacies. The second part is an overview of the intermediary business and a literature review, which briefly describes the concept, types, characteristics and the risk of the intermediary business, and gives a classification of previous theoretical results. The third part is the focus of this paper. It is to find the difference of the intermediary business between two countries, from the history, the operating environment and the development status. The fourth and the fifth part are proposed to a targeted program to promote domestic commercial banks to develop intermediary business. The last part is a summary of the full paper.
