Empirical Research On The Quality Of Economic Growth In Wuxi City

As one of Jiangsu’s key development cities and China’s economic center city, important communication hub and tourist site, Wuxi’s economy develops very quickly. However, the quality of economic growth and quantity of economic growth develops asynchronously, there are some problems during the rapid economic growing process, such as unreasonable industrial structure, economic growth mainly relying on investment, increasing all kinds of pollutant emissions, ecological environment bearing tremendous pressure and so on.This paper takes the studies on the empirical analysis of the quality of economic growth in Wuxi City as the main line. And from the point of the statistics, this paper is based on both of the qualitative analysis and quantitative analysis method. First of all, the paper makes the definition of the connotation of the quality of economic growth. Secondly, the paper establishes the evaluating indicator system of Wuxi’s economic growth quality with the related statistical data of Wuxi from1993to2010. Then, on this basis, the paper makes comprehensively analysis of Wuxi’s economic growth quality from1993-2010by making use of the PCA method. And to make further measurement, this paper establishes the asynchronous coefficient between the quality and quantity of economic growth of Wuxi city. Lastly, according to empirical results, the paper proposes appropriate policy recommendations to solve the problems on the quality of economic growth of Wuxi city.Through the systematic analysis, the conclusions of this paper are as follows:(1)The quality of economic growth of Wuxi city has a downward trend from1993to1020.(2)The quantity and quality of economic growth of Wuxi haven’t been developed synchronously.(3)The welfare level and ecological environment dimension makes the biggest cost weight among the three effecting dimensions of the quality of economic growth of Wuxi. The welfare level needs to be further improved, although it has already made improvement. However, the past heavy industry economy and investment scale expanding mode have brought huge pressure on the ecological environment, and make it hard to improve the quality of economic growth.(4) Talking about the economic growth structure dimension, the industry structure is relatively reasonable. But the problems of significant dual economic structure, high rate of investment, and too much reliance on the export have made difference on the improvement of the quality of economic growth.(5)The operation situation dimension’s contribution to the economic growth quality index is negative. During the economic process, the problems of the small proportion of R&D investment, poor increasing efficiency, large volatility of resource allocation and so on affect the stability and continuous of economic growth.
