Compared with traditional employee voice behavior construct, two distinctive characteristics that prohibitive voice has are uncertainty outcomes for individuals and enormous social risks. At this time, if an individual concerns more about personal gains not team interests, he will not speak up regardless of risks level. Even though past research mostly focuses on risk cues, obviously only risk cues cannot fully explain the antecedent mechanism of prohibitive voice. Therefore we also take motivation cues into consideration at the same time.So we design our research model based on the TPB(theory of planned behavior) framework, integrate risk cues and motivation cues, to find out the antecedents variables that can stimulate individuals to exhibit more prohibitive behavior. In this empirical study, we collect252employees’data to analyze the hypothesis. The results suggest that LMX has a positive effect on prohibitive voice, but the main effect of team identification is not significant. At the same time, we find that the interaction of LMX and team identification can significantly reduce self-censorship the individual has, and then stimulate him to exhibit more prohibitive behavior. This research results support the TPB framework in prohibitive voice research, and suggest good interpretation in the antecedent mechanism of prohibitive voice. At last, some practical suggestions and theoretical implication is discussed.
