When studying the companies’ status in the increasingly dynamic external environment, many schoolers point out that organizational inertia is a deep-seated reason for why business can’t adapt to environmental changes. Now organizational inertia has become a cutting-edge issue in the field of business management studies, but most existing literature about organizational inertia is still staying in the qualitative analysis, lacks of micro-level analysis of the companies, and consider that organizational inertia has a negative impact on the companies.Depending on those, this article regards the single company’s organizational inertia as a studying object, and do some research as following:firstly, depending on a review and analysis of literature, this article summarizes the organizational inertia’s meanings, causes, influencing factors and the relationship among organizational inertia, organizational change and organizational performance. Secondly, according to the root cause of organizational inertia, combining with the organizational inertia definition and characteristics of a single company, this article divides the organizational inertia into three dimensions, called structural dimension, system dimensions, and management dimension. Thirdly, according to inertia characteristics of each dimension, this article develops measurable indicators system so that the organizational inertia quantitative analysis can be achieved. At last, this article focus on Ningbo Fareast Chemical Group, and uses empirical analysis and hypothesis testing to investigate the feasibility of a single enterprise organizational inertia to be quantified. While, this article researches the dynamic relationship among organizational inertia, organizational change and organizational performance, hope to get innovations and breakthroughs in organizational inertia research, and support to the actual management activities.
