Based on the hererogeneous firm trade model, we study the trade data of China’s agricultural imports in2001and2011which is defined at the Harmonized System6-digit leve. We focuses specially on the relational between tariff reductions and the extensive margin by adopting statistics methods and logistic regrssion model on the analysis of the trade growth of China’s agricultural imports. Among China’s agricultural import trading partners, we find that China’s trade growth is due to the increasing trade volumes of the original trade products. Only a few countries’s export growth to China benefits from the trade of new goods and these countries are usually to be China’s FTA members. So we conjecture tariff preference influences the extensive marginof countries’exports to China in a less significant way such that China’s tariff reductions give way to new goods being trade. In the end we would like to give some advices on how to optimize China’s agricultural import an export structure by adjusting the tariff policy, which are sincerely hoped to be useful.
