The Research And Application Of Project Management In Large Scale Academic Conference

Under the reform and opening policy, academic communication is becoming unprecedentedly active with the rapid development of science and technology in China. There are various academic conferences to be held in various domains every year. Academic conferences are closely bound up with the spread and innovation of science and technology. Academic conference is gradually institutionalized, it has unique characteristics in aim, form and function. The key to a successful conference is how to organize a conference effectively and all participations are satisfied. Academic conference has ushered in an important period of development of the industrialization.Combined with the characteristics of large academic conference, this paper applies the project management theory into large scale academic conference organization by summarizing the experience and law of academic conference domestic and overseas. Through the analysis of large academic conference management and project management features, this paper demonstrates the feasibility and necessity of applying the project management theory into large academic conference. This paper analyses the project progress management, cost control and project communication. And it gives out the basic principles, basic framework and organizational processes of large academic conference in order to make the project management research results to carry out the actual large projects. At the end of this paper, a case of application of project management theory into "The9th Biennial Conference of the Chinese Neuroscience Society" is given. Use the critical path method and earned value method to the project schedule and cost analysis.
