Since reform and opening, China has made remarkable economic and social achievements, but the urban-rural gap and regional disparities continue to widen. There are both needs and limitations of the city to absorb the rural labor force. Chongqing has a typical urban-rural dual economic structure, and it is the only municipality in west China. Empirical study in Chongqing, analyzing the factors of the city to absorb rural labor force has important practical guidance value for the promotion of urban and rural development, and has a positive demonstration of practical significance for the development of the less developed regions and the whole country.Firstly, the thesis summarizes some previous theoretical results through organizing relevant domestic and foreign research. It develops some innovations to provide ideas for the following analysis. Secondly, it outlines the general situation and the characteristics of Chongqing rural labor force. It qualitative induces the tension and resistance of Chongqing urban to absorb the rural labor force. Thirdly, based on field research to obtain the original data, it uses SPSS statistical software to demonstrate the research hypothesis through hypothesis testing and empirical analysis. The results perfectly demonstrate the tension, resistance and other factors of the city to absorb rural labor force. Finally, it puts forward some corresponding countermeasures. The paper draws some conclusions. The tension of Chongqing city to absorb the rural labor force mainly comes from:there is a large number of surplus labor in rural areas, the urban gives higher income, the urban development needs a lot of rural labor, the institutional environment is accommodative, etc.; the resistance mainly comes from: the Chongqing industrial capacity to absorb labor is decreased, the city require a higher quality of labor, the supply of urban resources is limited, the growth of local public finance is limited, the social public services faces great demand pressure and so on. In addition, there are also some other significant factors such as the work industry of migrant workers, the distance from the origin to city, the housing type, the urban environment and the urban consumption level. This study combines with previous theoretical perspectives, and uses detailed data and rigorous logical thinking to make an empirical analysis. It provides empirical support for the theoretical results, and makes some complement and innovation to the views of past scholars.
