Industrial efficiency is an old topic which is often studied in economics and as the development of the society, new factors ceaselessly spring up. Accordingly, many researchers think more deeply and thoroughly about how to boost industrial efficiency. From1990s, more and more scholars come to pay much attention to the impact coming from industrial agglomeration. The theoretical and empirical studies about this become more and more and all those studies can be divided into two categories. The first is theoretical analysis about how industrial agglomeration improves industrial efficiency and the second is empirical study with the help of statistics. Although the theoretical analysis always emphasizes that industrial agglomeration can boost mdustrial efficiency by spillover of knowledge and techniques, large-scale market, sharing human resources and infrastructures, connections among different industries and so forth, many empirical studies differs in this:some are in favor of it bur the other are against it. Although there are not many empirical studies analyzing specifically those restraining factors, it reveals that industrial agglomeration does not always promote industrial efficiency and maybe there are other factors that restrict their impacts on industrial efficiency. From this perspective, I will study thoroughly how export influences agglomeration’s boosting effect on industrial efficiency in China. In theory, this paper has studied a lot of relative documents and at the same time analyzed theoretically how export impacts industrial agglomeration in Chinese manufacturing business.Export can boost as well as restrain industrial agglomeration, and moreover, it may be very unusual when it restricts industrial agglomeration. Sometimes, it maybe damages the good effect coming from agglomeration to mdustrial efficiency. In empirical study, considering data availability and integrity, I choose to make use of data coming from20trades of manufacturing businesses from2001to2011in China and process these data by analysis of regression. As a result, I find the manufacturing industry has been gathering into eastern coastal provinces because of the opening-up policy carried out over30years ago and the convenient exporting circumstances. Export damaged this kind of agglomeration’s good effect on industrial efficiency. Finally, the thesis analyze this conclusion and put forward relative suggestions.
