The bank is the core of modern economy and society, which bears the allocation of resources, economic regulation, risk management, stable society, and many other features. It is this particularity, giving it different with other enterprise responsibility and sense of mission, however, some banks often overlooked while pursuing the interests of maximizing its impact on the social and hazards, the begrudge student loans, in violation of the provisions of arbitrary charges, lending support to polluting enterprises, secretly manipulating the stock market or real estate prices, a great impact on society through credit behavior. Therefore, customers, employees, government, regulatory bodies, communities, and other stakeholders who are increasingly urgent calls for banks to take on social responsibility. Fulfill their social responsibilities need certain accounting cost and opportunity cost, however, invested and income uncertainty is one of the main reasons that many banks are reluctant to fulfill their social responsibilities. Seen, the study of the relationship between social responsibility and core competitiveness of China’s commercial banks, for guiding China’s commercial banks to actively fulfill their social responsibility is important, at the same time is also important to promote the harmonious development of social, economic and ecological significance.This paper studies both from a qualitative and quantitative point of view the relationship of social responsibility and competitiveness of commercial banks. Firstly, the domestic and international research literature summarized from three aspects of the social responsibility of the commercial banks, the commercial bank’s core competitiveness, and the relationship between social responsibility and core competitiveness, pointed out that the analysis of vacancies for social responsibility and core competitiveness of China’s commercial banks; then analysis from a theoretical point of view the role of the relationship between the commercial banks with core competitiveness, and expounded the relationship between social responsibility and competitiveness of commercial banks classical view of the interests of drive theory, modern social and economic theory, sustainable development of the theory of the three theories, from the short-term and long-term to derive the relationship between social responsibility and profits of commercial banks; Then use China’s listed banks to empirical analysis.Draws on stakeholder theory as well as the authority released the evaluation criteria, the evaluation of the social responsibility of the commercial banks to build three-dimensional degree system, using the Index System of The Banker magazine announced the commercial bank’s core competitiveness index system.2005-2010panel data of China’s10listed banks for sample empirical analysis based on each of the four assumptions of qualitative analysis. Finally, made policy recommendations for the qualitative and quantitative analysis of the results.The empirical study found that three of four hypotheses to be verified:no matter from long-term or short-term point of view, the social responsibility of China’s commercial banks are the core competitiveness significantly affect the past three years, especially significant; core competitiveness of China’s commercial banks The obvious reaction to social responsibility; related to the nature of the level of commercial banks fulfill their social responsibilities with the bank, the social responsibility of the state-owned banks to fulfill higher levels than the non-state-owned banks.
