With the increasingly tough competition in the mold market, small and medium-sized injection mold enterprises are in bottleneck time due to the backward concept of enterprise management in China. One of the keys to overcome the development bottleneck is to improve the management level radically and to utilize technology of information management comprehensively. As an effective tool of enterprise information management, PDM technology has been attracting worldwide attentions especially manufacturing enterprises as soon as it appeared. However, the PDM systems provided in market have high prices, superior difficulty in implementation and maintenance, which have been preventing its applications in small and medium-sized mold enterprises. Thus, it is an effective way to improve information management level quickly and also the key to accelerate the development by developing a PDM system according to the actual situation and specific needs of the enterprise.In this work, the application of the product structure and configuration management technology was deeply studied following the actual needs of the PDM system for an injection mold enterprise in Zhejiang, the work is divided as following:(1) The product structure and configuration management technology was described in detail, according to the demand of workflow management module, document management module, project management module and rights management module in product structure management, the model of product structure and the integration with these modules were confirmed.(2) According to the contents of the ISO9001quality management system, process management, organizational structure, product structure model and resource model were analyzed based on the injection mold enterprise’s quality management system, and on the basis of analyzing these models in detail according to the specific circumstances of the enterprise, product structure model was built. Took the special characteristics of injection mold products and the actual needs of the enterprise into consideration, process view and manufacturing view were combined, the data source of the product structure multi-view was structured out, the product configuration rules were defined, and the establishment of product configuration model was completed. (3) The architecture of PDM system based on three-tier ASP.NET framework was proposed. With the extensive application of Web technology, the development of the system was based on B/S mode. The system was a dual-core based on product structure and configuration management module and workflow management module, and used model objects as the medium to transfer data between system layers, facilitated the maintenance and management of the programs. In order to reduce costs and make the secondary development easier, the system was developed with factory pattern, and the data access layer was developed with interface form.(4) The storage structure and data structure of each node in the product structure tree were given, and the algorithm of the product structure tree dynamically was generated. Finally, document management, rights management, product structure management and product structure multi-view management in product structure and configuration management were designed in details ensuring the security requirements of the company data, which made it come true that various BOM views were generated dynamically.
