Customer Demand-Oriented Product Structure And Configuration Management

Product data management (PDM), an important portion of enterprise information technology, which integrates numbers of advanced techniques and management principles in modern designing process, could powerfully support enterprises to implement new strategical methods. Product structure and configuration management (PSCM) is one of the crucial modules in PDM system. It is the important basic for enterprises to carry out virtual and info production, and the necessary element to make PDM the frame of computer integrated manufacturing systems (CIMS).Therefore, how to realize the module of PSCM is of great importance to the whole PDM system.Through combination with plentiful materials, this paper analyses the concept and developing background of PDM technology, and its important role in industry production;expatiates on the idea and basic principles of PSCM, and its present problems and settle ways as well. Furthermore, taking the self-developed retarder PSCM system as an example, makes deep discussion and research on the design and development of this function module, especially emphases on the realization of customer demand oriented PDM and fast configuration.According to the actual condition of the project "Retarder Variant Design and Analysis Management System", analyses the features of retarder's product structure;set up proper product data model of retarder and quickly establish special database structure in terms of enterprise's requirement. The idea of customer demand oriented PDM and fast configuration suggested by this paper has made a good foundation for satisfying thespecific demand of different users. The paper, taking the PDM system------SmarTeam as itsbasic platform, provides users or application systems with different figures of product structure by some specific destinations and configuration rules, and provides the basic information service for ERP. Meanwhile, accurately and quickly generate different forms of BOM (Bill of Material) for different sections from the main BOM in PDM system, and realize the automate transformation of data from common state to XML document, from PDM to ERP system.The system is development based on the existing SmarTeam software. This paper discusses how to create the PSCM module in SmarTeam environment, how to realize the data integration, management of BOM, and customer demand oriented fast configuration.At last, this paper makes adequate summary of the system's design concept and implement effect, and briefly analyses the development trend of PDM and PSCM technology.
