Study On The Urbanization And Coordinated Regional Development In Gansu Province

Urbanization is the key to narrow the regional gap between urban and rural areas, and the spatial concentration of economy and population is the essence of urbanization, and it is the basis to realize the urbanization and coordinated regional development. This paper takes Gansu Province as an example, and unifies economy and spatial distribution of population with urbanization and coordinated regional development. From the perspective of economic and demographic space distribution, this paper take the economic and population spatial concentration as the main line and urbanization promoting the coordinated development of areas as a foothold. Under fully considering the region’s natural environment and socio-economic characteristics and by analyzing economic, demographic spatial distribution situation and its impact on the spatial distribution of urbanization and regional economic development, the paper carries out a systematic study of the problems of urbanization and coordinated regional development, by using structural and hierarchical analysis method.Through the analysis of trend for the spatial distribution of economy-population, it can be found that economic and demographic tends to gather in the middle region of Gansu-the core area of eastern Gansu and Hexi area of Gansu; Economic and demographic is the outward diffusion of momentum at the edge of the ring in the middle of Gansu-eastern Gansu, Southern Gansu and Gannan; There is a certain degree of deviation from the spatial distribution of economy-population; Central Gansu-eastern core area of Gansu and some part of Hexin has a greater potential to attract transient population; There are too many remaining population in the middle of Gansu-the edge of eastern Gansu and area of Gannan and southern Gansu.Through the analysis of urbanization in the spatial distribution of economy and population and coordinated regional development, it can be found that industrial agglomeration and development lagging in tertiary industry leading to the corresponding lagging in concentration of population are the reasons why urbanization and regional economic difference were came into being. The basic reasons are uniquely regional natural environment, the national policy of the planned economy period and its late inertial effects.Finally, Gansu province’s urbanization and coordinated regional development model and strategy should to be followed the two basic principles, one is being based on ecological and environmental protection and the other one is giving full play to the basic role of the market in the allocation of production factors. Then the author put forward the urbanization developmental model and strategy. The best regional development mode is gathering of the factors of production in some certain area and the strategy is implementing the space decentralization. On the basis of playing to the market as the main role, it is helpful to accelerate the development of backward regions through the Government’s policy tilt. According to differences in geographical space, it is good to take multi-choice and multi-channel developmental model.
