In recent years, with the rapid development of economy, logistics industry has obtained great opportunities of development, but it also suffered some trouble in some respects, and distribution is as a vital part of the logistics activity. The problem about selection of the distribution center site and optimization of vehicle routing has attracted people’s attention, therefore, choosing a scientific and reasonable method for the distribution center’s location and vehicle routing optimization is an important research topic in the field of logistics distribution. With the emergence of GIS (geographic information system), logistics distribution has obtained a bigger development space. GIS used modern computer graphics and database technology to deal with the geographic space and the related data of the computer system. The study found that if the GIS was as a geographic information system platform for vehicle scheduling system, algorithm of vehicle scheduling optimization could be integrated in the GIS platform. Therefore, distribution software can automatically make the delivery plan and it also can make the optimizing choice of the optimal distribution route, and the route can display on the electronic map in real time during distribution. Therefore, that software overcomes the problem that abstractness of dealing with the mathematical model about vehicle optimization scheduling, which is helpful to improve the work efficiency and reduce the transportation cost.Firstly, this paper introduces the current application of GIS in logistics industry. Then it elaborates the developmental history of logistics system and geographic information system beginning with the researching on both concepts.Secondly,it introduces the advantages of introducing GIS into logistics industry as well as the necessity of introducing GIS into the logistics industry. As a result, the model will be provided. Moreover, advantages and disadvantages of the current path planning in the logistics distribution which often used in some algorithms (genetic algorithm, mountain climbing algorithm, ant colony algorithm, etc.) will be listed. Finally, a more practical hybrid algorithm will be chosen while used to the GIS so that can optimize the logistics distribution path selection.
