The dissertation takes panel furniture plastic edge-banding on as the object of the research.On the basis of summarizing the types of plastic edge-banding, wood-based panel base materialand EVA hot-melt adhesive, this dissertation presents the evaluation of testing methods, and theinfluencing factors of the peel strength of the plastic edge-banding on panel furniture. The resultsof this study offer the fundamentals and basic technical reference for establishing evaluationstandard for quality of furniture edge-banding. The main conclusions are as following:(1) Through the verification test, the results show that the QB/T3655-1999<<Furnituresurface soft overlaid material peel strength determination>>method is not suitable for brittleplastic edge-banding, such as ABS and PMMA edge-banding; the QB/T3656-1999<<Furnituresurface hard overlaid material peel strength determination>>method is unsuitable for the plasticedge-banding which made of soft material and t is less than0.8mm in thickness, such as PPedge-banding.(2) The proposed new method <<Plastic edge-banding vertical plane pulling force peelstrength determination>> is suitable for testing common plastic edge-banding of variousthickness, such as PVC, ABS, PMMA, PP edge-banding.(3) Molding method, raw material, adhesive pre-coating and calcium carbonate additiveaffects the peel strength of PVC edge banding. Plastic edge-banding molded by extension exhibita higher peel strength than of the extrusion method; in standard environment, peel strength ofthree0.6mm edge-banding is found PVC>ABS>PP, peel strength of three2mm edge-banding isfound ABS>PVC>PMMA. It was also found that the peel strength is30times higher whenedge-banding had pre-coating treatment than the untreated; the peel strength of edge bandingwith high calcium carbonate content is also higher than those with lower calcium carbonatecontent.(4) Edging technology and panel base material affects the peel strength of PVCedge-banding peel strength. Automatic edging technology allows edge-banding peel strength tobe twice higher than manual edging technology; where MDF, as a base material also increase theedge-banding peel strength than shaving board.(5) Temperature has significant influence on PVC edge-banding peel strength.PVCedge-banding peel strength is highest at20℃and lowest at0℃.(6) Under standard condition, standing time also affects PVC edge-banding peel strength;the effect is most significant in low temperature and high humidity environment.(7) Plastic edge-banding (before edging and after edging) can be affected by thermalcycling. Of the three common type of ABS, PVC and PP plastic edge-banding reviewed, ABS and PVC are most affected by thermal cycling, except PP. Under normal experimental conditions,the affects of thermal cycling on peel strength is less if applied before edging than after edging.
