Research On The Ecological Security Of Guangdong Province Based On The Carrying Capacity Theory

Ecological and environmental problems can not be avoided by any countries orregions in the process of economic development. To keep economic growth whilemaintaining ecological environment and social stable as well as harmonious areimportant requirements of development, this embodies sustainable philosophy.Guangdong Province, being the cutting edge of China’s economy, its economic level hasbeen the frontier since the reform and opening up, however, along with economicdevelopment and population growth, some problems of ecological, environmental andsocial arise in Guangdong. How to resolve these issues to get Guangdong develop on amore sustainable and safe path has attracted a growing number of scholars’ concerns andthinking.This paper, by creating three-dimensional indicators of ecological, economic andsocial system and drawing on the resources bearing capacity theory, studies theecological security status and trends of Guangdong Province in the period of past thirtyfour years. The research first study Guangdong provincial ecological security, then dividethis province into the Pearl River Delta, the Eastern Areas, the Western Areas andNorthern Mountainous Areas to study each region’s status of ecological security and itsdevelopment trend of past twelve years. The results find out that the ecological relativecarrying capacity on the provincial level is in the overload state in the long term and theextent is expanding. The relative comprehensive resources carrying capacity ofGuangdong is in a surplus state. The current situation of ecological security in the PearlRiver Delta is most optimistic, with only its relative ecological carrying capacity is in theoverload state. Relative resources of the other three regions are on the state of overload;their ecological security situation is serious. Finally, the paper put forward policyrecommendations for the ecological safety regulation in Guangdong Province.
