As the key parts of the coiler drum, the pyramid axis and sector which are verysimilar in structure and process have multiple varieties, and most of production is singlepiece and small batch. The design and process method leads to large and heavy workloadIn the actual production, which increase the cost of production and the production period.In order to solve the above problems, the pyramid axis and sector of coiler drumCAPP/CAM system is developed in the paper. The main researching work involves:(1)According to the production of the pyramid axis and sector, Group Technology isadopted in the CAPP/CAM system. The overall structure of the system and functionalmodules are designed after analyzing function requirements and working mechanism ofthe system.(2)The classification and coding subsystem based on manufacturing feature isdesigned, and the method of the part information description is determined through theanalysis of the similarities of the pyramid axis and sector in the structure and processcharacteristics. The criterion of part family is defined, and part families are divided.(3)The complex parts of the rectangular pyramid full cone of axis and sector arestructured in the complex part method through studying the method of GT process of partfamily, and the GT processes of part family are designed.(4)Taking the milling process of the Rectangular pyramid full cone of axis asexample, a way of automatically creating NC processing program based on thecombination of GT and NC technology is discussed. The milling processes of the partfamily are determined after analyzing the milling process, and the automatic formation ofNC program is realized.(5)The system databases are created by Access2003. The functional modules andsystem interface are developed by VC++6.0, and the function of the system is achieved.
