Epoxy resin is used widely because of its insulated, good chemical resistant and high adhesive. But the tradition solvent-type epoxy resin coatings is not fit for the rule of law which is more and more strict because of environmental protection. Therefore, high-performance and environmentally waterborne epoxy resin coating become research focus at home and abroad. Among the preparation process of waterborne epoxy resin, the emulsion which obtained by the mechanical method and phase inversion method has larger particle size, poor storage stability, so it is lack of practical value. So, it is necessary to develop more advanced technology.In this paper, we prepared non-ionic self-emulsifying waterborne phenolic epoxy resin by chemical modification, and study the condensate performance.At frist, Mono polyethylene glycol maleate was synthesized by esterification of anhydride and polyethylene glycol under the existence of catalyst and toluene as solvent. It was found that if mol ratio of maleic acid to polyethylene glycol was (1~1.1):1, and the temperature was100~110℃, it could reach the highest productivity in the shortest time. By infrared spectrum analysis of the product, the mono polyethylene glycol malenate was successfully synthesized.Then waterborne epoxy resin was synthesized by F-44which modified by mono polyethylene glycol maleate. Optimum synthetic process was:using MPEG which the molecular weight is2000synthetised MPEGMA, the emulsion had good storage stability when it was added20%amount of MPEGMA related to F-44,the The particle size of epoxy resin emulsion was0.16μm. The emulsion was cured by imidazole,coating film had good mechanical performance when the curing conditions were60~80℃/20min, there are two Tg by DSC analyse, Maybe there are two different matter after curing; The emulsion was cured by waterborne epoxy curing agent LJ810which is producted by ShangHai LvJia company. It was cured most completely when the NH2/epoxy equivalent ratio was1.1~1.2. It had one Tgby DSC analyse, It showed that they have good compatibility between waterborne and curing agent. So LJ810was suit for curing the waterborne epoxy resin which we synthesized.
