With printing industry rapid development in recent years, such as organic solventvolatilization, waste water discharge in printing production process have seriously pollutedthe environment and the excessive consumption of resource has hindered the development ofthe printing industry. Study on the environmental impact and environmental benefit of theprinting production system is an important problem that modern printing industry faced.Environmental benefit assessment refers to carry on the analysis, the prediction andevaluation about products or the environmental impact in production process and putsforward the countermeasures and measures that prevent and mitigate the adverse impact. Inthe paper, according to the life cycle assessment methodology, energy consumption, materialconsumptions, emissions and their production costs of traditional and digital printingproduction system were analysed; combined with cost inventory, Process Green Factor wascomputed and comprehensive evaluation model of environmental benefits was constructed.Traditional and digital book and periodical offset printing production system as case studyobject, the environmental impact and environmental benefit were made a quantitativecomparison and further analyzed advantage and disadvantage in plate-making processbetween them. According to the comprehensive evaluation result, relevant modifiedsuggestions on process and waste disposal were put forward to provide scientific referencefor improving the environmental benefits of printing production system in dalian area. The results of Environmental benefits comprehensive evaluation of traditional anddigital book and periodical offset printing production system showed that the area of Surfacegraphic printing about85%of the total area, the environment impact value of traditional anddigital book and periodical offset printing production system are4.876and3.788, which statesthe environmental impact of the traditional book and periodical offset printing process ismore than digital. Printing process is the biggest process for environment impact of thetraditional and digital book and periodical offset printing. Green factor value of the traditionalbook and periodical offset printing production system is6.17and digital book and periodical offset printing production system is5.66, which showed the digital book and periodical offsetprinting production system environment impact value was lower, but its environmentalbenefit value was smaller, so it remained to be further improved. The innovations of this paper lied in using the life cycle assessment method andcombining PGF of industrial products (system) to construct comprehensive evaluation modelof environmental benefit and to study the actual case. The conclusion and suggestion wouldbe certain helpful in the new technological design and production system reform in dalianarea.
