In this article, the properties such as oil resistance, heat resistance, cold resistance, insulation of EPDM were improved through blending with silicone rubber. Firstly, the properties of EPDM blended with silicone rubber were studied. Influences of blending ratio of EPDM/MVQ and different types and amount of plasticizer, curing agent and reinforcing agent on the curing characteristics, mechanical properties and aging properties of EPDM/MVQ blends were studied respectively. Dynamic heat treatment was used in order to improve the compatibility between EPDM and MVQ. Considering that the structure of POE and EPDM was similar, the blending effect was excellent. Ehylene-octene copolymer (POE)/silicone rubber (MVQ) thermoplastic elastomer (TPV) was prepared by twin screw extruder, Ultimatly dynamic vulcanized POE/MVQ thermoplastic elastomer and EPDM were mechanically blended to improve the mechanical properties, heat resistance, cold resistance, oil resistance and insulation of EPDM/POE/MVQ blends.The result showed that:with the content of MVQ increasing, the mechanical properties reduced and heat aging of EPDM/MVQ blends improved significantly. The comprehensive properties of EPDM/MVQ performed the best, when the blending ratio was70/30. With adding plasticizer, the mooney viscosity and cross linking density of blends were decreased; when added20phr paraffin oil2280, the comprehensive properties EPDM/MVQ blends performed the best. White carbon black reinforcing effect was the best among three kinds of reinforcing agent. The mechanical properties of EPDM blended with MVQ vulcanizated with DCP was better than EPDM blended with MVQ vulcanizated with DCBP. The compatibility between EPDM and MVQ was improved by dynamic heat treatment, but the improvements were very slight.Blend modification of EPDM and POE was discussed, with the increase of POE content, mechanical performance of blends improved, but the compression permanent deformation increased gradually. With the amount of curing agent (TX-29) increasing, curing rate accelerated, the mechanical performance of blends first increased then decreased. The compatibility of POE and EPDM was excellent and the properties of EPDM obviously improved blending with POE, so POE could partially replace EPDM. The ethylene-octene copolymer (POE)/silicone rubber(MVQ) thermoplastic elastomer(TPV)was prepared by using Haake torque rheometer. Under the conditions of blending temperature130℃, rotation speed50~60r·min-1, vulcanization time4-12min, and using vulcanizing agent three-step feeding mode after mixing POE and MVQ evenly, the POE/MVQ TPV showed better comprehensive properties and smooth and tough surface. Compared with high temperature mixing mill and torque rheometer, the twin screw extruder was the best processing technic to dynamic vulcanize POE/MVQ thermoplastic elastomer.When blended EPDM with POE/MVQ thermoplastic elastomer (PMTPV), with the increase of PMTPV content, the mechanical properties, insulation, cold resistance, oil resistance, heat resistance of EPDM/PMTPV blends were improved; TG analysis showed that with the increase of MVQ content, the thermal stability of EPDM/PMTPV blends was improved. SEM and DMA analysis showed that compared with preparing EPDM/MVQ blends by mechanically mixing, the blending methods of mixing dynamically vulcanized POE/MVQ thermoplastic elastomer with EPDM could significantly improve the compatibilition of EPDM and MVQ.
