Fabrics with properties of absorption and quick-drying are widely used in sportswear and casual wear to make the skin of wearer dry and feel comfortable by transfer sweat away quickly. Most of these fabrics are made of polyester fiber with shaped cross section where the grooves on the fiber surface can transfer the sweat by the capillary force.In this thesis, the cross-sections of shaped fibers with properties of absorption and quick-drying are studied. Based on the images of the fiber cross-section, some parameter descriptions of the fiber cross section are introduced. By comparing and analyzing, a suitable parameter for the polyester fiber of shaped cross section is chose, and the method of measuring the parameter through image processing software is developed. The relationship between this parameter of fiber cross section and their influence on the absorption and quick-drying of fabric was also analyzed via testing and theoretical analysis.To obtain an evaluation for the property of absorption and quick-drying of fabric, suitable testing methods and evaluation indexes for fabric are needed. There are two testing and evaluating systems for absorption and quick-drying respectively presented by standard GB/T21655.1-2008and standard GB/T21655.2-2009. The two standards test and evaluate the property of absorption and quick-drying from different angles, and the results of the two standards are incomparable. Based on the working principles of absorption and quick-drying and specialties of shaped polyester fiber, GB/T21655.2-2009is finally chose since it can obtain dynamic data of liquid transfer which can better reflect the absorption and quick-drying property, but this test standard shall be improved and the evaluation indexes shall be complemented because the methods is not completely fit the polyester products and the real environment, the evaluation indexes are also over strict. This thesis gives some advisements to improve the test methods, and by testing and statistic analyzing absorption and quick-drying results of representative products from market, this thesis gives the more suitable reference indexes for products of different absorption and quick-drying requirement.
