Virtual assembly is an important application of virtual reality technology in themanufacturing sector. The possible problems in the design of products can be detected early byvirtual assembly, and the reasonableness of the assembly process can also be verified. Butbefore Microsoft’s3D somatosensory equipment Kinect listed, assembly simulation can only beexecuted through pre-set assembly sequence and the way the job action, how to realisticallysimulate the human body assembly operations and achieve real-time assembly processsimulation has been a difficult problem to solve. In this paper, the technology of real-time motion capture based on Kinect and thetechnology of computer aided simulation were applied to the virtual assembly process which, established a virtual assembly environment. A in-depth study of the key technology to buildmodels was made to achieve real-time simulation and ergonomics analysis of the assemblyoperations, and on this basis, recommendations for improvement of the design of products andassembly process of parts can be made. The main research content is as follows:1. Assembly simulation based on Kinect. Kinect is a3D camera produced by MicrosoftCorporation, with instant motion capture and image recognition functions. DELMIA is a digitalmanufacturing enterprise’s interactive manufacturing software with factory modeling, humanmodeling and ergonomics analysis functions. Kinect was applied to the operation of humanmotion data capture, and DELMIA software was secondary developed, in order to achieveavatar’s simulation operations driven by human motion data captured by Kinect.2. Real-time ergonomics analysis of assembly simulation. The requirements of ergonomicsin the assembly operations were determined, and DELMIA software’s functions were expandedto a certain extent in order to achieve real-time ergonomics analysis facing assembly operationsbased on Kinect, including reachability analysis, OWAS analysis, RULA analysis, NIOSHmention/lift equation analysis.3. The development of computer aided analysis system based on Kinect. The system contains assembly scene modeling module,3D human modeling module, ergonomics analysismodule and standard operating posture database management module. On this basis, thebuilding of human operation simulation process is facilitied, and the tools and means for theautomation of the operation analysis also be provided.
