| Yao costume, featuring with colorful and splendid patterns, is one of the most unique ethnic minorities costumes. Being rich in content, it brings together the essence of Yao traditional culture in the southwest of Hunan Province and expresses the Yao people’s specific aesthetic ideas and their zest for life. Up to now, the theoretical literature and works on the study of Yao costume patterns are rare, leading to a stagnant trend comparing with the development of the modern society and a decrease of the ancient traditional Yao culture. Therefore, it is of far-reaching significance to further and deepen the understanding of Yao costume patterns and their application to the modern costume design.In this thesis, the research value of the application of Yao costume pattern in modern costume design is mainly described from three parts. Starting from the historical background of the emergence and development of Yao costume, the first part introduces the historical resources and cultural connotation of its patterns. The second part classifies the collected various costume patterns by content. Through analyzing the form aesthetic characteristics of Yao costume patterns, it makes a further parse of the cultural connotation and aesthetic implication of the Yao costume patterns. By analyzing the development status of Yao costume and the development trend of its patterns in modern costume design, the third part mainly sums up the methods and approaches how the patterns are applied in modern costume design and puts forward some innovative exploration. In addition, a series of women fashion simulation cases with elements of the patterns of Yao costume are adopted to evidence the above description.Therefore, the innovative pattern design applied in the modern costume design makes the patterns of Yao costume cater to the current popular trend and the public’s aesthetic taste, which also reveals the new era style of the beauty of Yao costume patterns in new form. |
