Research Of National Costume Creative Design Method

As the most exterior symbol of a minority, folk costume is an indispensible part of Chinese splendid culture. There are many minorities in China, and each owns a unique folk costume culture, which also provides abundant resources for the creative designs of folk costume. This thesis starts from the approach of retrieving elements in folk costume, applying related information of modern designs, concluding the silhouette, color and design patterns of folk costume design elements, as well as abstracting and analyzing them from brand new perspectives. On the other hand, this thesis studies and innovates on the theory of modern design methods, without destroying the essences of folk costume in innovative designs, which reproduces the modern aesthetic.This thesis focuses on the retrieving folk costume elements, design approach of folk costume innovative design, and the theory and practice of folk costume innovative design. In the process of retrieving folk costume elements, the silhouette will be exhibited in the way of “geometrical form dimensionality”. The silhouette, which is formed due to differences of geographical climate and spatial, is concluded and analyzed, for example, the X shape, the H shape, the A shape, Y shape and the half Y shape. Folk costume is very colorful, therefore, in order to grasp the relations between different colors quickly, the Visual Convey Theory is brought into color refining, which effectively integrates the proportional relations and distribution of folk costume colors. In the folk costumes’ pattern retrieving part, the approach of “the visual of folk costume patterns consists of refining” is put forward, helping the visual element transforming of different folk costume patterns. In the last part, the design approaches, such as imagination and association, deconstruction and reorganization and symbolic variation, are brought into folk costume innovative designs. This thesis combines brand new design approach with element refining methods to have objective creation.This thesis combines theory with practice, as well as combines modern design approach with retrieved folk costume elements. It takes traditional folk costumes as blueprints to expand minds and to practice designs for folk costume innovative design. The author draws the design sketch and chooses one serious to make, which not only verified the feasibility of the design approach of folk costume innovative design, but also enriched costume design theory.
