The conservation of great ruins is a national strategy of improving China’s soft cultural power. In order to better preserve and make use of the national great ruins conservation area, as well as to achieve the overall objective of protecting the cultural resources, demonstrating the glorious history, promoting the economy growth and improving people’s living states, based on the case of the Jingzhou Ancient Chu JiNan Great Ruins conservation area, by using the geographic information system technology, and theories of applied ecology, cultural geography, space geography and sustainable development, this thesis is devoted to analyze the present environmental sensitivity influence status of the conservation area and implement the analyzed results to find the future directions of conservation area’s protection and development.By analyzing the present environmental sensitivity influence status and implementing the analyzed results, the thesis will achieve three major objectives. Firstly, to set up a conservational, managerial and developmental systems of the great ruins conservation area. Combined with heritage study, the thesis is aimed to preserve the whole value carriers’ authenticity, integrity, compatibility, and sustainability, as well as to ensure the heritages being preserved and managed in a long-term, systematical and scientifically way. Secondly, to give full play of the local cultural relics’ ecological functions and optimize the overall environmental qualities in the region by comprehensive planning of the conservation area’s rational land utilization, environmental capacity control, and the ecological protection. Thirdly, to produce the heritage’s social benefits, realize the harmonious relationship between heritage’s conservation and local economical and cultural development by the rational utilization and full display of every relic’s cultural value and historical connotation.Combined with theory analyses and technological methods, the major research method and technical route of this paper is qualitative research integrated with quantitative research. First, use Analytic Hierarchy Process(AHP) and Geographic Information System(GIS) to do quantitative research into the environmental sensitivity factors, focusing on the problem of how to select the major six factors(Cultural relics site factors, urban facilities factors, water factors, constructed land factors, surface slope factors, vegetation factors) from the large bunch of related sensitivity factors. The quantitative research includes studies of principles and methods selecting, unit dividing and assigning, sensitivity factor impact and weight confirming, and environmental sensitivity factors’ impact ranking(mainly ranked in five grades:extremely sensitive, highly sensitive, moderate sensitive, lightly sensitive, barely sensitive). Second, use quantitative research conclusions to determine the qualitative and applied researches of different blocks of different sensitive grades. The research is mainly focused on the single factor sensitivity analysis and application, multi-factor sensitivity analysis and application, which concludes that the major sites of the reserve should be divided into three blocks, and should take different protection measures respectively. Thirdly, this thesis proposed the overall protection and development objectives and strategies of the great ruins conservation area, as well as targeted directions and measures towards the three blocks. Fourthly, case studied the Jingzhou Ancient Chu JiNan Great Ruins conservation area.To sum up, on the basis of scientific multidisciplinary theory and reasonable application technology, by establishing quantitative and qualitative researches, this thesis successfully confirmed six major environmental sensitivity factors of the Jingzhou Ancient Chu JiNan Great Ruins conservation area, and obtained five environmental sensitivity factors’ impact grades, then reached the conclusion that the major sites of the reserve should be divided into three blocks, and should take different protection measures respectively. This thesis has preliminarily put forward the total overall development objectives, development strategy and the principle of the conservation measures requirements. Meanwhile, the thesis has also proposed targeted protection measures and methods, development directions and principles towards limited reserves, moderate development zone and appropriate development zone respectively.
