Yunnan, a place with distinct ethnic features, is a tourist province where most ethnic minorities are living there. Tourist food, as a high value-added product in the local tourist industry, has become a major part in promoting the local economic development. Food brand packaging with distinct local characteristics, as another business card for this tourist city and ethnic culture, can not be ignored when reexamining and building it.The paper aims at the research on ubiquitous problems existing in tourist food packaging in Dali, Yunnan province. On the basis of psychology, ethnology and other relevant subjects, the culture of the Bai nationality and features and functions of tourist food packaging are systematically analyzed. With up-to-date idea of packaging design, the design and strategies adopted in Yunnan tourist food packaging will be clarified and new thinking and method raised in order to guide practice and research through in packaging design. While exploring the charms of Bai culture in Dali of Yunnan province, we should not confine to the meaningless copy of ornament and patterns in the traditional culture but learn from the local folklores, natural scenes and customs and extract some functional patterns that are meaningful for the local culture, which can be used in the local food brand packaging design to promote the cultural added value in the local food brand packaging.The paper is divided into five parts to illustrate. The first part focuses on the background of the research, brief introduction to the purpose and the significance of the research so that emphasis of the paper is raised and research path and method confirmed. Then, illustrating the ethnic culture helps us understand the origin, formation and various forms of the culture and illustrating the contemporary packaging design trend helps us find the similarity between the ethnic culture and the packaging design. And with the help of market research on the spot, the ubiquitous problems existing in the packaging will be found out and causes would be analyzed. As to main problems, corresponding solutions will be made so as to find innovative design method for Bai nationality tourist food packaging in Dali. From the perspective of the author, experiment food brand packaging design scheme will be conducted for Bai nationality food packaging in Dali and the mentioned design method will be testified. The last part focuses on the thoughts and suggestions for the tourist food brand design in Dali in the future.
