Due to the current environmental protection concept, Akund as a natural, biodegradable, planting convenient, low cost, abundant resources of new cellulose fiber, it caught more and more attention in recent years. According to current China market, Akund has been processed for spinning and woven into textile fabrics in garment industry. However, there is no information on the relevant fiber characterization index system for Akund and no standard methods for identification and quantitative analysis as well. Therefore, the determination of akund’s relevant technical information and the development of the related testing methods become a hot research issue. The outcome of the research will plays an important role in improving the quality of the fiber production, guiding consumption and regulating the market. This research paper studied the akund’s macro morphology, microstructure, mechanical properties, moisture absorption, thermal properties, chemical solubility, antimicrobial and other related indicators. Based on optical microscopy and scanning electron microscopy analysis of the morphological characteristics, Infrared absorption spectroscopy method, dissolution method, combustion method, density method and other physical and chemical testing methods, akund’s identification of fiber mixtures and the akund’s quantitative analysisare implemented as following: Akund’s morphology and internal structure were tested by sensory observation method, scanning electron microscopy; Infrared spectroscopy method and the results showed the akund is about33mm long with uniform length distribution,, bright, shiny and soft with a small amount of impurities. Infrared spectra showed the characteristic of Akund’s belonging to cellulose fibers. Akund’s morphological characteristics showed smooth vertical surface, no natural convolution, substantially circular cross-sectionand the fiber wall is very thin. By using the relevant test methods, the results showed the akund’s moisture regain is12.7%, the average breaking strength is3.4cN/dtex, the average elongation is2.6%, the mass ratio of resistance is108Ω·g·cm-2. Akund has a good chemical resistance, manifested as alkali not acid. At room temperature, diluted acid or weak alkali have little or no impact on akund and it does not dissolve in a common organic reagent.Based on the study of different characteristic of akund, this thesis studied the akund’s identification method. First, use the combustion method to determine Akund is a cellulose fiber, at same time use the chemical dissolution method and infrared absorption spectroscopy method to further validate akund is non-synthetic fibers and protein fibers. Second, according to the different characteristics and their morphologies for akund and regenerated cellulose fiber under IR spectrum to determine akund is not viscose, lyocell, modal fibers, cuprammonium regenerated cellulose or other common fiber. Finally, by using the density method together with microscopic observation and sensory method to distinguish akund from cotton and kapok friber.According to the different chemical solubility for Akund and other fibers, this thesis discussed the quantitative analysis method for akund, wool, acrylic and nylon mixed product. The results showed these products can be quantitatively identified by using the Sodium Hypochlorite, Dimethyl Formamide (DMF),20%Hydrochloric Acid under certain test conditions. Since Akund and cotton have the similar chemical solubility, this research has taken a microscope projection method for Akund fiber’s quantitative analysis.
