The vehicle electronic stability control system (ESC) is the focus of vehicle activesafety technology. In order to maintain the active safety performance, ESC can adjustengine torque or brake pressure by judging whether the vehicle is oversteering orundersteering in different working condition.Solenoid valve is a main component of ESC Hydraulic Control Unit (HCU). Intraditional ESC product, on/off control is used for most solenoid valves. More and moremanufacturers apply linear solenoid to control the pressure accurately. This paper use amethod to study the linear solenoid valves. The finite element method had been used tocalculate the electromagnetic field and fluid field of the linear solenoid valve and get themagnetic force, coil inductance and hydrokinetic force. Based on these result, aMatlab/Simulink model had been built to analyze the linear characteristic. By change therelative parameters; the ESC can control the pressure accurately.After the sample of the linear solenoid valve being manufactured, a bench test and atest in actual vehicle are carried out. The results show linear solenoid valve can achievethe linear relationship between current and differential pressure. Compared with the ESCwhich use the on/off control, it is verified the linear solenoid valve has the advantage ofcontrolling pressure accurately, low noise. Not only linear solenoid can valve improve thecomfort of control, but also extend the product life and reduce the manufacturing cost formanufacturers.
