With the rapid development of high-speed railways in recent years,theconstruction of high-speed rail and the location of high-speed rail hub has become anon-negligible impact factors in the process of urban development and construction.In this context, the first part of this paper mainly illustrates how high-speed railsinfluence the development of the cities along them in foreign countries which own themature high-speed rails.First of all,the Japanese Shinkansen is chosen because its developing backgroundis much similar to ours.Comparing developments of cities along the Shinkansen withthose of cities away from Shinkansen,we can see that high-speed rails promote urbandevelopment exceedingly.And the case of Shinjuku tells us which kind of influencehigh-speed rails will bring to cities like Shinjuku.Secondly,two classic cities alongFrench TGV are selected—Lille and Lyon.What strategies will these cities take afterTGV is introduced become the main topic of this part.In the second part of this paper,23cities along the Beijing-Shanghai high-speedrail are divided into four categories according to their developments: coredevelopment cities;focus development cities;radiation development cities and urgentneed of development cities.Then,one classic city is selected of every category to illustrate what changes willhappen after the high-speed rail is introduced.According to development experienceof mature foreign cities along high-speed rails,some advice is given to make thedevelopment of cities along high-speed rails much more healthy, reasonable andsustainable.
