Functionality and quality of the project are closely related to people’s lives, and the continuous improvement of the project management performance is the key to the functionality and quality of the project. Currently, the project performance is considering more about the project governance formal system set. However, although the contracts in some of the projects is more complete, there have been poor project management performance even project failure phenomenon. Obviously, the conclusion of the project governance affecting the project management performance in the practice is a paradox, which results in project governance theory "paradigm nervous". The reason is that the project is rooted in a complex social environment, and it is not only a temporary contractual organization but also a temporary social network organization, which stresses the informal social network relational governance. Trust as the core elements of the state of relationship began to be the concern of the project management researchers, while improvement of project management performance is increasingly dependent on the mutual trust between the project participants. However, the effect path of trust on project management performance in existing research is still a "black box" with insufficient explanatory power of. Only clarifying action mechanism of trust on project management performance confidence can in order promote role of trust on improving project management performance.Based on research and analysis of the existing literature, this paper proposed a conceptual model and some hypotheses of the relationship between trust, cooperation and project management performance. The research conducted a survey in Beijing, Tianjin, Changsha, Wuhan, Shenzhen in mainland China and collected a total of129valid questionnaires. On this basis, the research used sample data to measure reliability and validity, of model and used structural equation model to test the theoretical assumptions. The study findings show that:(1) The conceptual model of relation between trust, cooperation and project management performance proposed in the study is acceptable, and has a certain universal significance.(2) The trust is an of important factors which impact cooperation and project management performance in project organization, but the influence of the different types of trust are not the same. The impact of integrity-based trust and competence-based trust on cooperation and project management performance is significant while institution-based trust is not. In addition, the influence power of integrity-based trust is more competence-based trust.(3) Positive relation between cooperation and project management performanceis significant and cooperation is a partially mediating variable between trust and project management performance. This article first introduced the cooperation as a intermediary linking trust and project management performance, to explore the relationship between trust and project management performance, which revealed the "black box" of relation between trust and improvement of project management performance. In addition, the study provided necessary theoretical argument and empirical analysis of the relation between different dimensions of trust and project management performance, as well as further reveald the action mechanism of different dimensions of trust on cooperation and project management performance, which consolidated study systems of trust promoting project management performance. On the basis of theoretical analysis, the paper proposed guarantee mechanism for the application of trust to promote project management performance, which can guide owner and contractor to foster trust more pertinently which would change promote the cooperative relationship between the two sides and reverse the confrontational situation nowadays. The findings will rich methods and means for project performance improvement and provide support for further improvement of the project management performance.
