China has been in a period of rapid urbanization development over recent years, and as the ever-growing urban population leads to a persistent large increase in building scale, a shortage of building resources has brought about a need for higher building energy utilization rates. According to building energy conservation and research center, Tsinghua University published China’s building energy conservation annual development report (2012) showed that urban housing construction area is increased by2.3times and energy consumption per unit area of the urban housing construction increased by27%. At the early stages of the architectural design, therefore, looking for a suitable designed methods of energy-saving to reduce the energy consumption of residential building is provided with great significance.There are two methods of energy saving design in building, one is passive design methods, the other is active ones. The passive design is a low-cost method of high technology in architectural design but low level in science and technology. The procedure of passive design are architectural planning and design, single building’s design, Type design and so on. The key of this design is how to make use of local climatic conditions. Because of its advantages in simple technology, low cost and easy integration, this method has be chosen the suitable design of how to reduce energy consumption of residential buildings by designer.My paper is talking about all of methods of passive design. From the perspective of architectural design, I arranged the specific content of passive energy-saving design on the basic of the climate and geological environment in my researching area, and found the result that whether the passive energy-saving design is applicability for residential in the area by the soft of auto ecotect analysis. At the same times, I combined with engineering case to verify the feasibility of the design method of the study. I hope to provide a design idea of energy-saving design in residential building by this topic research.
