In this paper, we discussed the feasibility and the road performance of ultra-thinagainst sliding wear layer with steel slag as aggregate. It has certain engineeringapplication value and environmental significance.This paper mainly introduces the mainusage of the steel slag at present and the mineral composition and chemical compositionof the steel slag. And the physical and mechanical properties of steel slag was studied,the crush value, Los Angeles abrasion value, density, water absorption, floodingexpansion rate(volume stability), asphalt adhesion and so on was tested respectively.Evaluation and analysis of the feasibility of ultra-thin against sliding wear layer withsteel slag as aggregate. Through the performance test of raw materials, thedetermination of steel slag asphalt mixture gradation and discussion on reasonablevolume parameters of steel slag asphalt mixing material, identified the optimumasphalt-aggregate ratio of two types of steel slag asphalt mixture including SMA-10type and SAC-10type when mixed with steel slag respectively0%,20%,40%,60%,80%,100%.In this paper, determination of steel slag aggregate effective density of eachgear by impregnation method, and the calculation method of steel slag asphalt mixture’svolume parameters is analyed, the part of calculation method is modified. Two types ofmixture (S-SMA-10and S-SAC-10) of different dosage of steel slag hadhigh-temperature stability evaluation. We can get the best dosage of steel slag as adesign content when the steel slag mixture’s high temperature performance is best. Onthe basis of that,we test the low temperature crack resistance, water stability, surfaceslip resistance and volume stability on them respectively. We also analyzed the socialand economic benefit evaluation and the construction technology research of the steelslag aggregates used in ultra-thin against sliding wear layer.The research conclusionwill help to further promotion and application of steel slag.
