In era of rapid development of the highway construction, the problem of highway safety driving has always been an important research object in the field of Intelligent Transportation System (ITS). It can be obtained that the condition of low visibility has a bad effect on the highway traffic safety in adverse weather from a large number of data. Now, the number of low visibility weather’s days is also increasing because of the pollution of environment, the haze weather is also appeared sometimes. At present, the methods including blocking the highway and the guidance system for highway have been adopted in case of the traffic accidents because of bad weather.The above methods can not effectively solve the safety problem under low visibility.In order to resolve the above question and improve the safety of driving on the expressway, safety driving scheme was proposed to provide technical support for safety driving. The scheme requires the vehicles perform queuing collaboration strategies under the condition of low visibility weather and coordinate the speed of the vehicles aiming improve the safety of driving on the highway. The following content were researched in this paper:1、The factors causing the traffic accident were analyzed, queuing collaboration strategy was proposed and the result of simulation shows that the safety of driving can be improved if the speed of vehicles reach coordination.2、The safety driving terminal was designed to make the drivers can obtain intuitively the status of the aroud vehicles. The GPS technology was used to get the information of the vehicle’s location,ZigBee wireless communication network was established between vehicles, the vehicles equipped with the terminal became the nodes in the wireless network. As a result of that, the vehicles can share the information with the other vehicles in the same wireless network. And then, the information is processed by ARM processor to calculate the relative position between the vehicles, finally the distribution of the vehicles were displayed on the screen.3、The terminal hardware was designed,the platform of Linux was structured, the driver of ZigBee2420was designed and the graphical interface of the system was compeleted.It can be obtained that the safety drving system can help the drivers change their vehicles’ speed and maintain variable distance between vehicles in case of traffic accidents from the test of the system..
