With the development of economy, big cities also develop fast. The scale of cities isbigger and bigger. Urban and rural areas interact with each other. And the factors of theseareas gradually penetrate with each other mutually. In this situation, the urban fringe hasclearly emerged which is different from urban and rural areas. This area has the dual structureof urban and rural areas. Resident trip determines the direction of traffic development in localareas. The characteristics of resident trip in urban fringe are the basis of traffic developmentand planning. The traffic of urban fringe that connects urban and rural areas has played a veryimportant role. The development of traffic in urban fringe can not only meet the demand ofresident trip and optimize the structure of resident tip, but also can greatly promote theeconomy of urban fringe. The paper covers four aspects as follows:First of all, Based on the theory of city geography, the paper expounds the concept of theurban fringe. And four main characteristics of fringe are analyzed in the paper as follows:acceleration of transition process, dependent on the mother cities, disorder in earlydevelopment phase and the positive and negative of ecological environment. Through theanalysis of influencing factors, the general steps and method of solving the problems areproposed.Secondly, this paper discusses the meanings of resident trip of urban fringe. Andcharacteristics of resident trip of urban fringe are analyzed and summarized from thefollowing aspects: travel frequency, travel purpose, distribution of travelling time, spatialdistribution of travel and travel modes.Thirdly, this paper presents the principle and general steps of a dividing method of trafficzone. According to the travel distance distribution of resident trip and trip probability ofresident trip in urban fringe, the reasonable scale of traffic zone has been reached. The scopeof the boundary of traffic zones is determined based on practical situation. And C#languageis applied to solve the problem.Fourthly, through the above analysis of resident trip characteristics of urban fringe, tripforecasting model of resident trip in urban fringe based on modified four-stage model hasbeen established.①the paper introduces three coefficients to correct the forecasting modelfor the resident trip generation. These coefficients are population development level, potentialtraffic village and the level of economic development.②based on the original gravity model,this paper introduces the inherent contact coefficient and analyzes the resident tripcharacteristics of urban fringe to correct the forecasting model of resident trip distribution.③using the macro forecasting method, the dividing method of resident trip modes has beencarried on.④with TrainsCAD, traffic flow distribution has been obtained.Finally, Lianyungang city, as an example, has been carried on for empirical analysis. Thecurrent situation of the development of Lianyungang city and division of urban fringe hasbeen analyzed in the paper. Based on the traffic survey data, resident trip characteristics of urban fringe are analyzed. And four-stage forecasting model has been set up to reach residenttrip results. With the survey and analysis of traffic situation of key roads in lianyuangang city,traffic flow volume, traffic flow direction, distribution of traffic flow time and traffic flowtypes have been obtained. The paper analyzes traffic problems of Huaguoshan and putforward the countermeasures that can provide basis for city traffic development.
