The early design of ship meteorological observation equipments usually uses single-chip system. Due to the limitations of the hardware and software technology development, the design of the equipments memory only have program memory and without the dedicated data storage media, and thus tend not to have the data storage capabilities. Some data storage devices stay reply on self-recording paper or internal curing storage, it can not leave the high-capacity digital data record. Reading and the post-processing of data is also very inconvenient. With the rapid development of the hardware and software technology, especially chip manufacturing technology, it have become a new requirement in the practical application for embedded devices that have a large-capacity memory, embedded devices, real-time measurement data. At the same time, with the rapid development of Ethernet technology, the changes in the field of industrial control forward to Ethernet-based network control direction. This transformation of the design ideas, it avoids the shortcomings for the entire system field bus technology incompatible that due to a variety of devices with different form of bus. It is hoped that the observation instruments that do not have the storage capacity and network communications capabilities for intelligent network node transformation of traditional with the Ethernet technology and storage technology matures.With country efforts to develop the ocean gradually increase, it become inevitable social needs that ocean meteorological observations of these devices. The design data storage capabilities embedded Ethernet communication system is to be applied to a type intelligent transformation of this ship meteorological observation equipment. The design goals of the equipment after transformation not only have a stand-alone long-term data storage capacity, and also as a network node, will be collected in real time meteorological data sharing with other devices in the network. The design data storage capabilities embedded Ethernet communication module based on the ARM9microprocessor, and it built an embedded application platform using the Linux operating system. It realized the drive design for Ethernet and SD card, completed Ethernet development of dual redundant communications features and applications of SD card data storage capabilities. At last, it completed the preparation of the test program in the PC side and the corresponding functional tests work.
