IEC61850standards was drafted as an international standard in order to adapt to the times of the needs for the smart grid’s innovation development. It is a prerequisite for the development of the global smart grid construction. The application of combination the latest released of the IEC61850with the important part of the smart grid advanced metering system, which is the integral part in the development and construction process of the smart grid and the future trend is also for the AMI system. At present, researches on the IEC61850standards are mostly concentrated in the communication of substation automation, the information object modeling for relay protection and intelligent electronic devices, etc. But the combination of research and application of the IEC61850standards with the AMI system was inadequate. As one of the four technical supports for smart grid, building a smart grid is inseparable from the study of AMI systems.In this paper, on the basis of in-depth understanding of the IEC61850standards, then according to the naming convention of IEC61850to naming logic devices and logical nodes standardized which are the virtual images of the AMI system. Using its object-oriented modeling idea to model the minimum functional units decomposed by the actual intelligent electronic equipments of AMI system, and the model definition for functional information objects of the AMI system in IEC61850was completed, then described the configuration information of AMI system specifically by XML language. Afterwards, the consistency check of information object configuration file of the AMI system carried out online on the consistency check platform of the IEC61850standards.Secondly, the communication service mapping principle of IEC61850standards was elaborated and researched the communication service mapping of communication technology for the AMI system based on Manufacturing Message Specification, and the information objects of the AMI system mapped to the Manufacturing Message Specification was completed, including the object model of the AMI system mapped to the Manufacturing Message Specification and the service model of the AMI system mapped to the Manufacturing Message Specification. Based on standard, samples mapped to communication service was done also, and then used the XML language to achieve a specific description for communication services. Afterwards, the conformance testing of communication service file of the AMI system carried out online on the consistency check platform of the IEC61850standards.Finally, the embedded Ethernet communication technology of the AMI system based on the IEC61850standards is studied in this topic, and the embedded Ethernet communication interface is designed for smart meters and concentrators. The hardware and software designs of embedded Ethernet communication interface were completed. Then through a hardware platform of simple AMI system combined with software of the power monitoring terminal master station to experiment and verify the transmission in the electricity of the electric quantity data sampled from smart meters.The research work for AMI system communication technology based on the IEC61850standards will be of very important significance for further improvement and construction of smart grid and advanced metering system.
