Comprehensive Automation technology use communication technology, data analysis, processing technology application control, use of various kinds of hardware facilities and automatic device for various functional combination and optimization of substation intelligent, improve comprehensive management level, in order to replace the manual operation, reduce the substation misoperation, improve the reliability of operation. With the improvement of electric network, control centers of different levels require more information so as to be aware of the operating situations of converting stations and make them more controllable. In this sense, remote centralized control, operations and measures are increasingly desired, which means an unmanned management mode leading to a higher productivity and a lower possibility of man-made mistakes, so that the reliability can be enhanced. In the other hand, the application of modern techniques of computer and communication has changed the traditional pattern of secondary equipment and the working way of converting stations in aspects of system simplification, information sharing, and reduction of cable, space, and cost of construction.Based on introducing the development process of synthesis automation of converting stations home and abroad, the project design of35kV Fangshan substation are discussed in this paper. It includes communication system, operating system, system operation mode, Function design of the system, Technique conditions required, basic principles and designing strategies. A kind of highly effective, reliable unmanned converting station has been chivied. Operating results of the project has proved the accuracy and the feasibility of this work.
