Dong Zhi tableland located in the central part of loess plateau,with typical of the loess plateau landform features, in Dong Zhi YuanShang settlements with alot of groups, and the existence and development of settlements is inheritance andcontinuation of traditional settlements structure.This article based on the thinking and of contemporary settlements development to buildawareness of the traditional settlements, with typical pit Dong Zhi tableland settlements as theresearch object, focuses on typical pit settlement distribution rule and build ideas, analysissums up the characteristics of pit settlements.This paper firstly analyzes the domestic and foreign research on Chinese traditional cavedwelling, DeKengYuan, settlement of the status quo, on the basis of this,through fieldresearch and literature analysis summarizes Dong Zhi protect the natural environment andhumane environment, and under the background of this residential development.
