Research On Landform Landscaping Arts Of The West Lake Scenic Area In Hangzhou

Landform is one of the most important landscape elements of the West Lake Scenic Area inHangzhou at the same time, the landform landscaping is one of the most important way to createlandscape. This paper research on landform of the West Lake Scenic Area in Hangzhou, using thesemethods that includes literatures search, field investigation, summarization, case analysis andGeographic Information System(GIS) to explore the landscaping arts features. The main researchcontents and findings are as follows:Firstly, this part analyses the factors such as natural environment, Confucianism, Buddhism andTaoism, Geomantic Omen, folk activities and landscape painting and so on, which influence onlandform landscaping arts of the West Lake Scenic Area in Hangzhou. According to its developmentcharacteristic, the history stages of landform landscaping art of West Lake Scenic Area in Hangzhoucould be divided into five periods which are embryo period, growth period, maturation period,maturation later period and new development period.Secondly, the whole landform space of the West Lake Scenic Area in Hangzhou have beenanalyzed from three aspects which are altitude, slope and slope aspect by the geographic informationsystems (GIS). Based on landform formed in different ways, the landform of West Lake Scenic Areain Hangzhou have been divided into natural landform and artificial landform. Natural landform havebeen divided into peak, top, hill, ridge, cliff, hole, cave, caves, valley, stream,etc. Artificial landformhave been divided into causeway, island and rock.Thirdly, the natural landform landscaping arts characteristics of the West Lake Scenic Area inHangzhou have been analyzed through field research, case analysis, including five aspects which are "Constructing the temple at appropriate site ","Constructing buildings, springs, road on the mountain "," Cave paradise have cloud and water "," Landscaping along these mountain streams " and "Borrowed scenery which include space and four seasons ".Fourthly, the artificial landform landscaping art characteristics of the West Lake Scenic Area inHangzhou have been analyzed through field research, case analysis, including three aspects which are" Causeway and Island divide into water for scenery "," It is imitation of nature which is based on theland creating terrain "," Rockery looks like really which is constructed by heaping soil and piling up stones ".Fifthly, the questions of the Landform Landscaping Arts of the West Lake Scenic Area inHangzhou have been thought deeply and the measures about it have been proposed. Combined withpractical projects to explore the impact on modern garden construction.
