With the discussion and research of urban spatial morphology at home andabroad, the philosophy of intensive urban spatial morphology optimization has beenacknowledged by more and more practioners. By means of a moderately compactand decentralized planning, it is able to effectively curb the city’s irregular expansion, save energy and balance the demand for land. The centralized setup and integratedutilization of public facilities can bring good effects. It can reduce the burden oftraffic and pollution emissions and control the urban sprawl. It seems to be the hottopic when the international community discusses about exploring urbandevelopment. Under the guidance of the concept of eco-city and the theory ofsustainable development, late1990s witnessed a series of profound changes in theconcept of governance. With the social development and reform deepening, asustainable development model is increasingly demanded. So the philosophy ofintensive urban spatial form optimization becomes the preferred method to achievesustainable urban development strategies in China.Facing the transformation of the old industrial and structure adjustment, it is acritical time for Changchun city to expand at big scale. A reasonable urban spacelayout planning will be the core for the entire city development as it will influence itsfuture development trend, competitiveness and etc.So the intensification of urbanspace layout is of great significance. The paper is to make a research of "Urban space" with a local culture prominentcontext of Changchun City, by means of doing research and analysis on the status ofChangchun city, comparing with some similar spatial structure in relativelydeveloped cities at home and abroad, sorting out the advantages and disadvantages, features and problems of intensive spatial planning, and combining the variousfactors, such as the urban population size, utility of space, the density development, traffic and etc, Then it comes up to a proposal for future urban spatial planning tocreate a mixture of urban functional segments. This proposal probably brings some ideas to Changchun research on developing an intensive urban spatial formoptimization.
