The city is confronted with significant environmental and resource pressures due to rapid development of urbanization and frequent water logging, water pollution and severe loss of rainwater resource has become a major problem restricting urban sustainable development. And also damages against the eco-environment are constraining the pace of urban development. In the construction process of urbanization, we shall adhere to deal with the conflicts between urbanization, eco-environment and natural resource protection and build the eco-environment with sustainable development. Construction of an eco-sponge city with the functions of natural reservoir, natural infiltration, natural purification is essential to the construction of ecological civilization, and an important reflection of mutual coordinative development between urbanization and environmental resources and also a major task for China's future urban construction.Through the researches on the development of urban roads, this present paper illustrates rainwater utilization, one of the significant measures for sustainable development. Rainwater utilization has been applied in Landscape Design for a long time. Since the last century, rainwater utilization had attracted more and more attention, and some research on rainwater utilization had been carried out, such as rainwater system of low impact development proposed by USA and " eco-sponge city" concept proposed by China in recent years. In the paper, there are certain researches and illustrations on rainwater system of low impact development and " eco-sponge city" concept respectively. And the " eco-sponge city" concept will be used as a guideline in subsequent schematic design to carry out design researches.
