At present, the urban rail transport (URT) due to its transport speed, punctuality rate, large volume and green features has been adopted in major cities. Therefore, the scale of the URT gradually expanded from lines to a network. However, the previous studies about the capacity of the URT system are mainly based on the lines, and most of them are research on the analysis calculation methods. So, we urgently need a method which takes the network system as a whole and takes the actual travel behavior of passengers into account to calculate the URT network capacity, which will provide evidence for transportation management departments to making a rational transportation decision and improve the capacity. Based on this purpose, we proposed a method to calculate the URT network capacity which based on the computer simulation.Firstly, on the basis of summarizing the research results at home and abroad, we proposed the concept of the URT network capacity, and analyzed the factors which affecting the URT network capacity qualitatively, including the network characteristic, Passenger flow characteristics and the level of service (LOS) of the network.Secondly, we did a questionnaire survey to determine the main factors of the network LOS, the result showed that the factor are the congestion of the trains, the distributing time of the stations and the waiting time for the trains in the platform. Then with the questionnaire result we put up the key indicators of the network LOS evaluation from the angle of line and station. Based on the research of LOS grading standards of line and station, we give the concept of the LOS of the overall URT network and its grading standards.Then, by analyzing the concept and features of the pressure test, we put forward a method which take the pressure test as the main ideological to calculate URT network capacity based on computer simulation. In the method, we set the scene of the simulation. And then, take use of the process of the pressure test to calculate the URT network capacity by increasing passenger to the URT simulation system and obtain the extreme number of the increasing person.At the end, according to the above theory, we take part of the Beijing URT network as a research object to calculate its capacity with the real data to verify that whether the method is feasible. And the result showed that it was feasible. And on this basis, we analyzed the calculation result, and found the capacity bottlenecks of the network and proposed improvement measures.
