Because of the development at full speed of society in last century, the worldchanged shaking, including people’s way of life and city space. At the same time, thethinking low carbon, green and sustainable development has been accepting graduallyby people, especially architects. So their design thinking should be changed and fittednatural environment passively. For example, architects at the beginning of design for abuilding could adopted local natural conditions avoiding unfavorable factors thatarchitect create healthy and comfortable indoor environment on the one hand andprotect outdoor environment on the other hand. Therefore, this is very important thatbuildings for designing green architecture could be adapted local environment.The differences of nature environment in various areas form for green architecturedifferent measures in China, a vast and great regional different country. Much greenarchitecture also is called ecological architecture which has atriums usually that showsvarious forms and patterns in different areas. What is space pattern for greenarchitecture adjusting Handan, located on cold climate zone in China? The thesis woulddiscus design strategy of green atrium in this area and use atrium’s ecological efficiencyto prolong buildings’ lifecycle.At the beginning of this thesis, it shows its basic frame, including researchbackground, research contents, research purpose, research studies and methods, etc.Then it introduces general situation of green atriums and summarizes its key concept.And it also shows growing trend about energy saving of atriums at home and abroadand analyzes green cases. It describes elements and classifies of climate and tells theoryof passive design which declares relationship between architecture form and passiveadaptability. This part is to be called theoretical basis of this paper. Next it analyzesresearch strategy. Using climate in Handan, Public building’s inner courtyard are beenbiological. Considering characters of atriums in public buildings, such as flat, section,lighting, ventilation, envelop enclosure and microclimate adjusting, the thesis analyzesthe atrium form adapting the area. At last, it summaries design strategies fitting greenatrium in Handan.
