With China’s heating industry of heat pipe network developing into a booming era, the construction and management of a great many of heat pipe network system makes the utilization of geographic information system more and more widespread. However, the safety problem of heat network shouldn’t be neglected. For its fault leakage accident of the urban heat pipe network occurred endlessly, it not only brought huge economic damages to heating company, but also threatened the user’s lives and properties. Besides, with the information technology advancing rapidly, the emergence of heat pipe network fault diagnosis system has become an inevitable trend. The paper studies the urban heat pipe network fault diagnosis method, and summarizes the research status of leakage fault diagnosis technology throughout the world. It describes the Microsoft Access database design of geographic information system and its application in heat pipe network. The author uses graph theory to build up hydraulic analysis model of heat pipe network and presents its solution methods. Besides, the author deduced the function relation between pressure and flow rate in unsteady flow according to the differential equations and boundary conditions of the flow inside the canal fluid. On this basis, the heat pipe leakage pipeline diagnosis method and leak positioning method were proposed, pipeline alarm valve ε0and leak εF were designed. We can judge whether the heat pipe leaked through the law of flow conservation, and searched out the leak pipeline by judging the size relation of pressure drop difference ε1and ε0before and after the pipeline leak. Then located the leak at any point by judging the size relation of pressure difference ε2and εF before and after pipeline leak, moreover the location accuracy is5%. Finally, in order to realize the automation of heat pipe leak fault diagnosis, MapInfo MapX control and Visual Basic language were used to design the branched heating pipe network fault diagnosis system based on GIS.
