In recent years, the railway of China demands for speedy and large carrying capacity. In order to fit in with the market, CNR Dalian Locomotive and Rolling Stock Co., Ltd. and Southwest Research Institute of the United States cooperated, and finally in March1997, they developed12V280low-emission four-stroke diesel engine, which has been widely used in China’s locomotive. The electronic fuel pump, porous fuel injector, integrated UPS and many other advanced injection system structure and technology were used in the diesel engine. Cylinder liner of the12V280diesel engine combustion system was studied in this paper. It mainly carried out in the following areas of work:First of all, the working environment, structure, failure modes and optimal design condition of the12V280diesel engine cylinder liner were given in detailed description according to relevant references, as well as the Pro/E and ANSYS software used to analyze stress-strain of cylinder liner. Secondly, the dynamics calculation of12V280diesel engine cylinder liner was carried out. When it is working, the cylinder liner receives side pressure from the piston assembly and burst pressure generated by the combustion gas. The position and size of the pressure was obtained by dynamics calculation. Thirdly, in order to prepare for the finite element analysis, a solid model of12V280diesel engine cylinder liner, meshing, defining material properties, boundary conditions was built. Fourthly, ANSYS software was used to calculate and analysis. Using the ANSYS software, we can analysis the stress and strain of12V280diesel engine cylinder liner in the following situations, such as when in the preload, in the temperature and under the temperature,as well as mechanical loading coupling affection. After calculate, the size and concentration position of the stress can be obtained, and the data basis for the optimization design of the cylinder can be provided too. Finally, fatigue check and optimization of the12V280type diesel engine cylinder liner was made. The optimized program was carried out by analysis the structure of the cylinder liner, heating and processing technology. And the structural characteristics of optimal design can be seen obviously compared with the original structure.After finishing the work discussed above, we grasped the basic characteristic of the12V280diesel engine cylinder liner.Through systemic research and analysis of the retrofit cylinder liner, the foundation of calculating this type of cylinder liner was provided, and it can also be referenced for the design of other types of cylinder liner.
