Power quality of the power system has a great effect on the development of China’s economy and the improvement of people’s living standard. Good power quality is favorable to the normal operation of electrical equipment, which ensuring the normal operation of scientific experiments and industrial production and reducing energy consumption effectively.The paper begins with a brief introduction to the concepts of power quality and its national standards. Then it makes a further research on the hardware and software implementation of power quality monitoring and reactive power compensation. In terms of hardware, it uses NXP’s LPC2136as its main control chip, builds the signal modulation circuit by using the operational amplifier, and converts the high voltage and the big-electric current of power network into the voltage signal which chip can acquires, links the regulatory signal to the A/D sampling mouth of the chip, designs a relay drive circuit which can duly control reactive power compensation in accordance with the detected power quality parameters. It uses Saber software to simulate the designed circuit, after simulation analysis it builds the real circuit to further test and makes the PCB ultimately. In terms of software, the harmonic analysis is carried out through the improved FFT algorithm, which can obtain the operating parameters of the power network in the steady-state. And at the same time, the relay is switched by monitoring the system parameters and using the improved nine domain algorithm as the control strategy of reactive power compensation.Finally, the signal generator generates a signal, it analyzes the deviation between the detective power parameters and the given value. Multiple sets of experimental data show that this system can accurately measure the related parameters which characterize the power quality, such as voltage deviation, frequency deviation, harmonic content and power factor and so on. High precision inspection provides a reliable basis for the improvement of power quality.
