Our country is currently the world’s largest refrigerator production andconsumption country, market competition of each big refrigerator productionenterprises in China has entered the white hot stage. Energy saving and environmentalprotection are the most critical factors in the market competition at present. Energysaving refrigerator is not only related to the survival and development of refrigeratorenterprises, but also an important guarantee for the sustainable development strategy ofour country. Many techniques and methods of energy-saving for refrigerators areavailable at present, some have achieved good market effect, and others are still in theexperimental stage. The refrigerator energy saving technology and measures arereforming with the refrigerator development that brings more potential forenergy-saving.The idea of "split type refrigerator", which imitated the structure of domesticsplit-type air conditioner by dividing the whole system into indoor and outdoor unit, was proposed. The air-cooling condenser and the compressor were combined andplaced outdoor, while other major components of the refrigerator were still kept indoor. The two parts were integrated together through the circuit. Great changes have takenplace in the condenser’s working environment of "split type refrigerator" comparedwith the one which placed indoor. These changes would furthermore influence thecondenser heat transfer as well as power consumption of refrigerators. In order to further explore the energy conservation potential of the "split typerefrigerator", two types of direct cooling refrigerator configurations wereexperimentally compared under the same indoor environment. One was modified as a"split type refrigerator", while the other one was traditional refrigerator withouttreatment.Taking Qingdao area as an example, various experiments were carried out toanalyze and compare refrigerator’s body temperature, running time, refrigerator powerconsumption as well as the condenser surface average temperature under differentclimate conditions, i.e. spring, summer, autumn and winter respectively. Results indicate that the "split type refrigerator" performs the best during summer, not obviousduring the transition seasons and nearly no strength during the winter in terms ofenergy saving effect. Nevertheless, when compared two refrigerators’ electricityconsumption in12months and a year, we find that the "split type refrigerator" isenergy-efficient in operating years.Besides experimental research, theoretical calculation and analysis were alsocarried out in this paper in order to obtain the relationship between the refrigeratorcondenser temperature, environmental temperature, the total cooling capacity and theCOP change rate under particular outdoor environment. In addition, throughcalculating of the refrigerator power consumption, air temperature of a refrigeratingchamber changes along with its running time and the refrigerator power consumptionduring continuous operation were received.
