Because the railway passenger car has the advantages of large capacity, low cost and simple maintenance, it has an irreplaceable position. The car power supply, as a vehicle power supply device for electric equipment, is mainly composed of the three-phase inverter and charger. In order to keep the IGBT module of railway passenger car power supply operate safely and reliably, it must be designed the driver and protection circuit of high performance. Thick film driving circuit, the series of SCALE drives and other Integrated drive protection circuit are often used in the past, but which have some disadvantages such as inconvenient adjustment of interface circuit and the internal parameters, expensive price, insufficiency of function and long procurement cycle.In this paper, The research is expanded in the background of CSR ZHUZHOU INSTITUTE CO.,LTD projects "converter module common technology platform development". With requirement of the railway power supply for driving and protection and the problem of the integrated driving circuit, the drive and protection circuit is independent designed which has a perfect function, low cost and convenient parameter adjustment.It can get the suitable driving positive and negative voltage, driving grid resistance, driving power and the mode of electrical isolation by the analysis of working characteristics of IGBT. The power module and the output end of railway passenger car power supply failure are analyzed by PSPICE and computation. Then several short-circuit fault in the IGBT failure modes were analyzed, the detection and protection method of IGBT module short-circuit can be got.According to the railway passenger car power supply of IGBT module requirements to drive and protection, the vertical driving and protecting circuit of IGBT is designed, which includes driving power supply, signal isolation circuit, driving circuit and detection and protection circuit of the four modules. Therefore, besides the basic functions of the driving signal power amplification, the drive and protect circuit have a reliable electrical isolation, shorter transmission delay, fault detection and protection, under-voltage protection and gate protection functions.In the end, the drive and protect circuit is verified by PSPICE and single board test, the results of simulation and experiment show that the drive and protect circuit can achieve the corresponding functions, which has great practical value and meets the preliminary requirements of the project.
